All members of the band wrote songs and all took lead vocals on various album tracks, apart from John Deacon,(the quiet one), but it was Freddie Mercury, who simply oozed charisma even from early on. You knew he was special! As soon as you saw them perform "Killer Queen" on "Top of the pops" (a British institution for many on TV). When you saw the "bling" and the big fur coat and the sheer elegance and style of the man then you knew they were going to be really special! and become one if not the biggest band in Britain.

I have compared using my PSP versus using my brother's Nintendo DS. I came up with this conclusion: Lets say that I'm going on vacation, have my PSP, I can listen to mp3 files thru my PSP music. I could play a game if I feel like it. I could watch a movie, or video clip. Show my loaded pictures to friends. I could read a magazine or even the Bible thru the browser. The Nintendo DS is just limited to playing games.

But then, found out that not all PSPs can do the same things. Everyone on the internet kept talking about Homebrew. Well I did my research and found out that I had not unlocked the true gaming potential of my PSP. Now I do believe that if I count the games the PSP can hold, it would be the largest list, beating any other game console out there. Why? Because the PSP can emulate so many other consoles, for example NES, SNES, SEGA GENESIS, MASTER SYSTEM, GAMEBOY, NEO GEO, and much, much more.

What this means is that you will be able to emulate many game consoles of the past like mentioned and download games that are design to only run on the PSP. This is all possible by just acquiring a memory card, since this will all reside in memory. Although its a "next-gen" game, the graphics don't necessarily give the impression it's next-gen, but theres moments when you just cant help but say 'wow' . It's got some of the most beautiful scenery, when your at the top of a mountain road looking down into a valley, you can't help but be slightly awe-struck, it's wonderful. The most memorable moment I've had was when i was doing the millionaires challenge in a V12 Lamborghini Murcielago, the sun was setting and there was a very mellow beautiful warm glow coming off the rear quarter panels of my Lambo, the road was reflecting a golden glimmer off the horizon and blind jumps accompanied by the sound of the V12 engine as it was hitting the redline on a very long straight down the north side of the island by a military base. It was a beautiful experience.

The car models are very accurately recreated, in the garage you can zoom right into just about every aspect of the car, this will blow you away as you feel you can almost touch them at some points, what amazed me is the fine curvature of the e-type bonnet and body, you could zoom right in and really admire it.

The figures come from a study by the Communication Workers America, which is campaigning for faster access nationwide. Rhode Island had a median speed of 6.8MBps, narrowly pipping Delaware (6.7), with New Jersey (5.8), Virginia (5.0) and Massachusetts (4.6) rounding out the top five.

I trudge back late Friday evening, weary with the activities of the past week. Funnily enough, I can't recall what I've achieved (am not sure if a longer to-do list counts!), but am tired as hell.

Perk 1: Bandolier or Frag x 3
Perk 2: Stopping Power or Juggernaut

MP5/M4 with Red Dot Sight work well. Make sure you have these console commands if you don't already.

The all new Nintendo Wii, introduced in the fall of 2006, has become a great success in the game box battle competing with Sony's Playstation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360. So what makes Wii so appealing, that they are sold out in stores within hours of being stocked. Compared to the other next generation game consoles the graphics are nothing to get exited about. What Wii has managed to do, is get people off the couch to have some fun. The new system is easy for all age groups to play from the 5 year old child to the grandmother. Breakdown of the NBA Finals from a Bettors Perspective

The 2007 NBA finals will be great for sports investors, although it will go against many of the traditional rules weekend warrior bettors may be used to.

To start, large spreads are usually indicative of large market teams. The spread for game one Cle@SA is 7.5 points with the home team favored. Considering the finals are a showdown between the final survivors of each conference, 7.5 points is monumental.

Lets take a look at reason why SA may cover this spread.

1) They are considered the better team and easily have the better pedigree. SA, led by Tim Duncan who is widely considered a top 10 NBA player (if not higher) leads a team of savvy veterans who have been there, done that. Yet, they do not hold the same swagger other dynasties have (and yes, in todays day and age the Spurs are as much of a dynasty as the Patriots). In fact, since they are often ignored, they continue to play the game hard, as if they have a chip on their collective shoulders. This team never gives an inch, and takes every facet of the game seriously.

2) Its early in the series, and though an older team, they have had ample rest since defeating Utah to recuperate. Add to the fact that Cle has just come off a grueling series, and not just physically, but mentally. 2 losses by 3 points. One double overtime. And now all the hype surrounding them. That type of media and fan frenzy can wear down any team, but is even more the case when it comes to a younger team like the Cavs.

3) Beyond Duncan, they have a series of players who consistently show up in big games. Sometimes their heroics are staggered between them, but often times they show up all together. Duncan can have a bad game and hit a double-double, but it will be Parker, Ginobili, Bowen, Finley, Horry and the rest of the crew that simply will continue to pour it on. How many times has any one of those guys come through for their team? The bottom line, if any one of them is on their game, 7.5 points is a cake spread.

4) This is the finals, there is no need to conserve any more energy. SA saw what the rest of the world did, that the Cavs can play defense, rebound, and score in bunches when needed. And even moreso, they never give up. Teams like that are dangerous to stick around and the leadership and staff in SA will not make such a mistake.

Now, before you rush out and place your wagers though, lets look at reasons why Cle will beat the spread.

1) 7.5 points is a lot of points. Especially against a team playing full of confidence and was just crowned the Kings of the East. During the regular season, Cle easily beat this spread in fact, they beat SA straight up, both at home and on the road. In those 2 games they were 5.5 and 3.5 point underdogs.

2) LeBron is LeBron. When was the last time he had a bad game? Sure, his 20 points and 14 rebounds were not close to his previous performance, but I think I even saw a kitchen sink thrown at him from the Detroit bench. Meaning he controls a game both directly and indirectly. Mind you, it is conceivable the SA defense could shut him down and then the Cavs role players shoot bricks at an ice covered hoop all night, but this is the biggest series of all their lives and they have nothing to lose. No one expected them here, yet an entire region is now on their bandwagon. LeBron will make an impact, and that impact is enough to bridge a 7.5 point spread.

3) The Cavs are hot. They are 21-6-1 against the spread in their last 28 road games and 38-15-1 ATS in their last 54 game over all. Of the last 10 times they were underdogs, 80% of those cashed in profits for their fans. Take trends as you will, because honestly, you are only as good as your next game. But their last game was pretty good, as were the games before that. The bottom line is not only did they beat the Spurs straight up, twice this season, but they beat or tied the spread nearly 79% of the time on the road, and 80% of the time as underdogs in their recent history. Yet they are larger underdogs than before?

4) A quick glance will show SA as leaders in almost every statistical category, but a closer look will show the numbers are closer than it seems. SA has a decided edge in playoff ppg as a team, 97.9 versus the Cavs 90.9, but SA has played more offense orientated teams Denver, Utah and the Suns all push offense over defense. The Cavs meanwhile faced both Wash and NJ who definitely are capable of scoring, but not once were at the level of the Suns and only Wash came close to Denvers season output. Then, add in they played a season strong defense team in Detroit, and thought Ill let the fans argue what conference was better, the bottom line is SA played against teams that rely more on offense, and therefore allow more offense. They have not yet played a defensive team of the Cavs caliber. Which leads us to our next stat, rpg: SA=39.8, CLE=43.9. Cle has averaged more rpg against opponents who shot less. Which means they hit the boards significantly harder than SA. Looking at the numbers closer, 7.5 points seems like the lock of the year.

There you are, reasons and rationale why either team will make the 7.5 spread. You are now armed with all the knowledge you need to make a decision. However, before you go and lay down all your money one way or the other. Take a look at the series as a whole. The truth is, as far as the media is concerned, the Spurs will win this series in 5 or 6 games. And you know what? Given their deeper talent, familiarity with pressure and leadership, this should be true. But as sports investors, who wins this series is secondary. We dont get to hold any trophies. But like the multimillionaires, we too can earn nice financial bonuses off this series.

Naruto: Rise of the Ninja follows the story of the popular anime series. The game's style is that of a 'beat 'em up' with RPG aspects, for example, your character's stats do increase and they will learn new moves and abilities as the game progresses.

Whilst I really liked the style of this game, and the use of cell-shading I was disappointed that the developers had not re-animated the cut scenes in the same manner (unlike the new Dragonball Z game), instead they have simply inserted actual slips from the anime into the video game. I actually find this to be quite lazy, especially since the game can be completed in about 10 hours. If they had added some nice CGI it would have made it a little bit more enjoyable.

Despite the length of this game, I really enjoyed playing through it. The graphics are impressive, the story immersive and the voice acting exactly what you can expect from a top class anime series. However, despite the impressive graphics, there is one very obvious flaw, and that is the fact that the in game characters never actually move their mouths to speak, the voice over's simply sound, this is unlike the Dragonball game where they speak even in battle.

I think that they have cut many corners in this game, there are things that I personally would have included in the game in order to improve the style and feel of it. I would have been much more impressed if they had bothered to animate things other than a simple walk, run and jump cycle. The fact that they simply didn't bother to animate the mouths at all throughout the game, leads me to believe that they simply wanted to release this game as soon as possible, with as little work required.

Missions CONSTANTLY require you to travel from A to B, and then back to A, and back to B about five times before you can proceed with the games actual story. This becomes ridiculous and irritating after the third time, and I couldn't help but think I would have enjoyed the experience a bit more if they had bothered to allow you to be transported to the correct location.. And before I get the, "Maybe they couldn't" line, they could and this is proven since after each mission, you can warp back to Leaf Village.

However, despite the many gripes I have about this game, and its lazy development, I am still highly pleased with the game and have enjoyed playing through it, and even though the game was only 10 hours long, I felt should it have continued, my patience would have been tried. I have even decided to watch the complete Naruto series, something that up until now I have failed to manage.

Azada: Ancient Magic is a lot about finding the right puzzle pieces and placing them in the right place, whereas the original Azada was about solving puzzles so that you could move through the book pages to free Titus.

On the other hand, other gamers who have downloaded the new game have been challenged by such things as the encrypted message, how to use the Secret Garden Book, how to guide the Tin Man through the World of Oz maze (hint: you gotta use a magnet!), and even finding the wood to put on the fireplace. There seem to be as many players of the new game who are excited and challenged by the new game as there are those who finding it to be mere child's play. Indeed, there are some players of the new game who feel it is better than the original Azada precisely because it is less frustrating.

Some people who have bought the new game are also finding it difficult to download, and grow frustrated as the game's downloading gets interrupted, often causing them to have to start the process over again. However, this may have more to do with problems inherent in Windows Vista or XP than it does with the game software. And most people don't seem to be having that problem with downloading, which one would think would be there much more frequently if it were a flaw on Big Fish's end.

Video Game Legends - The History of Zelda's Link

The "Legend of Zelda" is one of the all time bestsellers in the video game genre. A major feather in the cap for game and console giant Nintendo, the game and its subsequent sequels are thought to have sold between 47 and 52 million copies the world over, and the numbers are still steadily climbing.

The storyline is a variation on a common theme: Link, the hero, must save Princess Zelda from the villain, Ganondorf Dragmire. Ganon is on the hunt for a relic known as the Triforce. Each game is an intricate and enjoyable mix of standard platform play, combines racing with puzzle elements, and also features role playing, which made it an instant hit with Dungeon & Dragon (D&D) aficionados.

A Brief History in Zelda's Time

1986 is the year that the original "Legend of Zelda" is released. A single player adventure game rated "E" by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), it was specifically designed for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), although at this point it has been reformatted to also play on other platforms. Young Link must rescue Zelda from Ganon, all the while finding a number of pieces that make up the Triforce of Wisdom. It plays a lot like a D&D game and was an instant hit.

1987 saw the release of "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link," an amazingly swift sequel to the initial Zelda release. Another offering for the NES system, this sequel is a role playing game (RPG) and surprisingly one of the least popular of the series. Granted, the fact that it is a distinct departure from the tried and true arcade and at-home console games may have had something to do with the chilly reception.

1992 is the year that Nintendo had dealt a mortal blow to Sega in the North American console wars, and "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" saw the light of day as a Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) game. With much improved graphics, it is a return to the action of the original game but also introduces the concept of the parallel universe, allowing Link to travel in both worlds.

1993 was the year that Nintendo released "The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening" for the handheld Game Boy platform. It features Link who is seeking to escape an island by awaking the guardian of the locale. Zelda or the Triforce do not feature in this game.

1998 the game returned with "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time." Made for Nintendo 64 and expanded to include the 1999 DD and 2001 GameCube platforms, it tells the tale of the story before "Zelda I," making it a classic prequel. Link plays as a boy as well as an adult with the help of time travel.

2000 was another good year for the Nintendo 64 when "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" was released. The storyline is highly complex, leading to extensive praise by critics and players alike. The one fly in the ointment was the need for the RAM add-on Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak, but loyal Zelda fans did not waver in their affection and purchased it. Link is able to transform into difference characters with different abilities, depending on the mask he wears. The mask also changes game play, making this one of the most intricate games to date.

2001 saw another development for Game Boy Color with the release of "The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons" and "Oracle of Ages." Together they form an original game and a sequel in which Link continues on the mission and saves Zelda. With breathtaking colors, the one complaint from actual players was the less than stellar audio quality of the Game Boy Color, which forced audiences who became accustomed to a certain level of auditory ingenuity to endure the age old "beep" of video games.

2003 saw the first game specifically designed for the GameCube. Entitled "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker," showcases stunning graphics and rather prolonged loading times. To gloss over this design flaw, Nintendo had Link approach various locales through slow and prolonged sailing, allowing the loading process to continue without game play interruption.

2004 is the year of "The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures" for GameCube. Link battles his evil counterpart - rather reminiscent of Mario battling his evil twin in 2002's "Super Mario Sunshine" - following the usual story line.

2005 brought a release for the Game Boy Advance known as "The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap." It reintroduces the four swords of prior games, and invites Link to fight familiar foes.

2006 is a first for Nintendo's Zelda. It is the first time that a game is released concurrently for two platforms - Wii and the GameCube - and that the game went from the friendly ESRB "E" to a rather more ominous "T" for teen rating. Called "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess," it is the more realistic depiction of violence and also blood that sent raters to eye the game with a bit of wariness. Truth be told, this is the grown up Zelda game that no longer features the little boy Link but instead showcases the more mature warrior.

2007 is the year of the last installment entitled "The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass," which was aimed at the Nintendo DS platform and is the long awaited sequel to "The Wind Waker." Link is once again the little boy and critics welcomed the game with open arms.

Getting To Know Link

Link is the undisputed protagonist of the Zelda series, even as the game is named for the maiden he forever seeks to rescue. Although his age varies between preteen and more mature teen, he is a character specifically designed to appeal to the majority of players. To this end, game developers endowed him with quintessential hero qualities that players could identify with or at least aspire to: valor, bravery, loyalty, humility, and smarts.

Players are quick to acknowledge that perhaps the most endearing quality of Link's character is his ability to grow and learn from experiences as the game progresses. Although relationship forging in video games is not unheard of, at the time the original Zelda games were released, this was a major improvement. Link was no longer a linear character that would be constantly the same, but he became a person with likes and dislikes, friends and acquaintances.

It is a curious inconsistency that Link initially presents himself as a left handed warrior, but in between games changes to right handed action.

Link's Friends and Foes

Each game features an extensive cast and crew, but the most commonly returning characters are of course Link, Zelda, Ganon, and occasionally Tingle.

Constantly requiring Link's assistance is Princess Zelda. A quintessential teen incarnation of a princess, she has blond hair, blue eyes, and performs a variety of tasks in response to Link's solving of a puzzle or collecting a number of needed items. She does magic and serves as the bridge between sequences. One cannot help but notice that Link and Zelda hint at possible romantic involvement in future teen oriented games.

Ganon, also known as Ganondorf, is the main enemy of Link and Zelda. It is noteworthy that unlike so many video game villains, he actually manages to undergo an evolution and turns from the basic smash and hack antagonist into a Machiavellian prince.

Tingle was an occasional character in the Zelda series that is useful for reading maps. Perhaps he was floated as a trial balloon, or maybe he was supposed to take on a more serious role as time progressed, yet after a few games it became obvious that he was so odd and unable to remain germane to the game that he was dropped.

What Does the Future Hold for Link and Crew?

Fan communities are already second-guessing the next installment in the incomparable Zelda series. Votes are split between a sequel for "Wind Waker" and one for the teen rated "Twilight Princess" edition. As of yet, these conjectures are only buzz, and Nintendo has remained mum.

Team Fortress 2, the long awaited sequel to the popular QuakeWorld mod from 1996, does its predecessors more then enough justice. Like the original, TF2 uses class based combat and pits up online players against each other in a number of different game modes, but this time in a very cartoon like fashion.

Probably the most appealing aspect of the game is the overall look and style. If you were to have both TF2 and Team Fortress Classic (TFC) playing beside each other, just by looking you would never figure that they were related. TFC had a very simple, basic army style; nothing special. As for TF2, the graphics are such a huge presence and are pulled off extremely well. Its "living cartoon" style, as I like to call it, is not only appealing to the eyes, but also adds a lot of humor to the game. If you were splattered into pieces by an enemy rocket, then you are treated with a properly labeled snapshot of your disassembled body parts. Even small things, like an engineer setting up one of his 4 gadgets, are enough to make you stop and watch as they are automatically assembled before your eyes.

As for the actual game play, there may not be any single player mode, but TF2 offers a lot in terms of variety online. There are 9 very different classes to choose from and switch between at any point during a match. The 9 character are split into 3 categories; Offence, Defense and Support.

In the Offensive category you'll find the Scout, the Solider and the Pyro. The main role of these characters is to charge right into the enemy base without any support. Under Defensive, you'll find the Demo Man, the Heavy, and the Engineer. Obviously, these characters were designed mainly to defend control or capture points. All three are able to lay down loads of damage over a long period of time - the Demo Man with his sticky bombs, the Heavy with his chain gun and the Engineer with his sentry - but still require lots of support. This brings us to, well, the Support characters. First we have the Medic. The Medic has low health, and can't dish out much damage, but if you want to do more helping then harming, the Medic is for you. His Medi Gun is used to heal allies up to 150% of there starting health and can also grant temporary invincibility to both the Medic and his healing target. Next is the Sniper, whose name says it all. The Sniper uses his Bolt Action Sniper Rifle to pick off enemies one by one. His machine pistol and Kukri knife are used to defend against close range attackers who are tired of constantly being reminded that they are a victim of a head shot. And last, but certainly not least, is the Spy. The Spy's main objective is to get in, and get out. Using his cloaking and disguising abilities, the spy can infiltrate the enemies defenses undiscovered, and use "Electro Sappers" to knock out all of an Engineer's gadgets, then finish him off with a backstab with his butterfly knife.

As you can plainly see, there's something, or someone rather, for everyone in TF2. Each character has there own feel and personality which opens the game up to more then just the hardcore FPS audience. All of the characters voices are very distinct and memorable; you'd never mistaken a distant ally Pryo for a Medic when he yells to warn you of a nearby enemy Spy, because the Medic has a strong German accent and the Pyro...well who knows what the Pyro's saying. Enough about the characters, what about the environments? One thing that can be said about TF2's level selection is that it's few but still fantastic. At release there may have only been about 6 different levels to play in, but all of them were and still are extremely fun to experience, and now with so many user generated maps there's even more reason to keep playing, not to mention the fact that Valve is preparing new content to be released in the near future, including new maps, weapons and game play modes.

Overall

Fantastic art direction, unique characters and weapons, and overall excellent game play. I truly feel that TF2 will be the most fun people will have playing a FPS since "Goldeneye 007"; and let me tell you, I played a lot of Goldeneye back in the day. With its eye catching visuals and character based humor, this is a must have for any PC gamer looking for some online multiplayer action and a hell of a good time.

There are those that are thankful that the Dragon Ball Z series continues to continue, and there are those that wonder how the hell it can continue since it doesn't seem to evolve. There really is no need to wonder anymore my friend. As long as the first group I mentioned continues to buy the continued series, the series will continue to continue. How many more Dragon Ball Z games can we expect in the future? To be continued

Those that do appreciate Super Dragon Ball Z don't need any excuses. They are a diehard bunch that won't be satisfied with just any old fighting game. Even if they aren't into the whole anime thing, Super Dragon Ball Z is built on a solid fighting platform that few games can match. It doesn't have all of the bells and whistles such as tons of different modes and unlockables that a lot of games rely on, but fans appreciate this game for what it has and that seems to be good enough for them.

It's not enough for me however and while I can appreciate the responsive controls and the depth of combat, the game lacks magic. I want more than just a fighting game, in fact, I demand more. Dragon Ball was already established as a great fighting game years ago but little has changed with the series since the start of the millennium. You could almost say that some things have regressed with this title. There isn't as much combat depth as was seen in some of the earlier titles, even though this version is taking a slightly new course and focusing more on close-range combat. You would expect more moves with such a format but moves such as counters and reversals are the exception and not the rule.

In all there are 18 characters. A dozen of them have been ported from the arcade version and six are exclusive to the console version. Goku and Gohan are back, of course, and you can also expect the androids, but no particular character stands out in terms of personality or ability. The ability issue I can understand because you can upgrade each character much like an RPG, but the lack of personality is unforgivable. Did the developers think that we're already too familiar with the characters and that anything further would be overkill? Imagine overkill in a Dragon Ball Z game. Ridiculous, I know.

Using the core of a particular character you can upgrade him by acquiring moves with points that you are awarded in combat. This will give you some flexibility with the characters but you can end up with the same result regardless of which character that you begin with. The moves are basic and the super moves are relatively easy to pull off. The combos require some quick button configurations which gives the combat more depth than your average button masher. With the trend toward more close-range combat you will spend less time in the air doing aerial combat, and the two main combatants will be within striking distance of each other so there will be more a focus on fists and feet than long-ranged power beams. You also won't see a lot of the dramatic, special attack animation that has been a staple of the game and cartoon series. Super Dragon Ball Z attempts to distance itself from the cartoon by paying homage to the comic book style which is a little more mature, which means it's less colorful and over-the-top.

The 3D environments can be used strategically for cover. They are interactive and destructible and add some more dimension to the gameplay as they add multiple levels that you can jump up to or down from. The collision detection system however makes things a bit messy. You will hit the odd invisible wall that hinders your movements and occasionally you'll get trapped between these planes and find that you can't attack your opponent even though they can attack you.

Regarding the AI in the single-player mode, you won't be disappointed by how convincingly they are programmed. They put up a good fight that is natural and best of all, unpredictable. Each character has some special attribute that is exploited. It's not enough to give them a nuanced personality; they become a stereotype, or caricature of a character. The two-player mode is more than just the icing on the cake, it's the main ingredient. The single-player mode is just a prelude to the multi-player mode, but only if you can find a worth adversary. Playing against someone that lacks the passion will be an agonizing experience. You'll find yourself yearning for the challenge of the single-player mode.

The music is an amalgam of remixed old and new tunes. The sound effects are decent but nothing special. The voiceovers are functional but do little to further the plot or define the characters.

Overall Super Dragon Ball Z would be best described as "slightly different" than "new and improved." Not everyone will agree that this is a waste of money but be sure to rent it first if you have any doubts.

What exactly is HD radio and how does it compare to Satellite Radio?

You have probably noticed an increasing amount of advertisements promoting this new thing you've never heard of before: HD Radio. They say you can hear "undiscovered content" and digital quality audio. You probably even heard the best part of the entire advertisement, "No subscription fee!"

Let me help you learn a little bit about HD Radio. I will try to keep it simple so as to giving you all the information you need with as little technical lingo as possible.

HD is NOT High Definition

First off, you probably have heard of HDTV and if you haven't heard of it, I'm guessing you live in a cave. HD Radio is not the same thing as HDTV. The HD in HDTV stands for High Definition. Do not mistake this as the same in HD Radio because HD in this context means Hybrid Digital.

However, it delivers much better radio transmission than standard radio signals. Some HD radio stations transmit 5.1 Surround Sound digital audio signals, allowing you to enjoy true concert-like experience. You can be sure that more stations will opt for this mode of transmission in the future.

Digital and Sub-Channels

HD Radio allows various radio stations to broadcast digital information through the FM or AM frequencies. Additionally, these digital transmissions could be sent on numerous sub-channels, allowing about three stations per frequency. This would triple the amount of stations you could potentially listen to on HD Radio. What would it look like on the display, you ask?

Generally, standard AM/FM radios would display the following: FM 104.7

On HD Radios, it would display as: FM 104.7 HD-1 or 104.7 HD-2 (with each HD-X indicating a sub-channel)

As of 2007, the signal quality is reported to be close to CD-quality audio on the FM channels, which is a huge leap in the radio industry. However, it is highly unlikely for AM frequencies to experience this improvement since the AM operates on a much smaller band. Think of it as a hose. A smaller garden hose could not deliver as much water as the fire department's hose; and unfortunately, AM is that smaller garden hose.

Advancements in Digital Technology

There were reports and complaints in the early stages of HD Radio (2006) of static and interference when tuning in to these HD channels. However, the technology has advanced significantly within the last two years and has improved signal quality and isolation. Don't worry about quality-loss so much unless you're on the AM channels.

You may also have heard that the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) begun the process of making obsolete analog radio and television transmissions. What does this mean to you? Well, you can be sure that only improvements will be made. Unfortunately this would mean that most standard AM/FM radios would become obsolete within the next couple of years, possibly forcing you to purchasing a new HD Radio for your vehicle or home.

Comparison to Satellite Radio

Price

Satellite requires a monthly subscription fee ($10-$15/month), activation fee, and cancellation fees if you cancel before your contract is over (if you sign up for the "reduced" contract subscription). To receive Satellite Radio signal (whether Sirius or XM), you would need a special antenna and a satellite-radio that either has a built-in satellite tuner or just plain satellite ready without the built-in tuner (tuner still required and sold separately). Expect to spend anywhere between $150-$300 on equipment alone, depending on what you need (additional tuner or antenna, etc.)*

HD Radio is completely free. You only need to spend money on the receiver itself. Just like Satellite Radio, you could either get a built-in HD Tuner in the in-dash receiver or you could get them separately (in the case where you already own an HD Ready head unit). They're much more affordable, either way, costing you anywhere between $100-$200 total*.

*Note that these are generalizations of the bare minimum and does not take into consideration additional features you may want with your radio (i.e. Bluetooth, USB support, 3.5mm Aux input, navigation, etc.). They also do not take into consideration labor and parts as each vehicle varies.

Quality and Coverage

The advantage of Satellite Radio is the coverage. You could drive from Los Angeles to New York City listening to the same exact station the whole entire length of the trip. Satellite Radio tends to also specialize in their stations more than HD stations. For instance, there are specific channels for comedy or sports. Satellite Radio is also commercial free since you are after all paying for it.

HD Radio is locally-focused. You tune-in on local metropolitan stations and would not have the same coverage as Satellite as exemplified above. Though HD stations are much more like any typical non-specialized radio stations, it is possible that they may do something similar to Satellite Radio in the future.

Both HD and Satellite Radio do broadcast in digital quality audio. At this point, one does not hold a significant advantage over the other because as with radio-type transmission and reception, it is susceptible to interference and static. Don't be fooled with the word 'Satellite' because of this fact.

If you're trying to keep up with the current technology but also want to save money, then upgrading to HD Radio isn't so bad. Most of the well known brands out there like JVC, Eclipse, and Kenwood are producing HD Radio Ready in-dash receivers, forcing you to get additional accessories. Only a handful of companies like Dual and JVC (again) are marketing built-in HD radio tuners.

If you're pickier with your listening selection, and not too concern about the fees associated with the Satellite Radio, then perhaps you should opt for Sirius or XM Radios. Plenty of popular brands such as Sony, Alpine and Pioneer sell both SAT Ready and built-in Satellite tuner receivers, so you shouldn't have a problem looking for these.

The choice is yours to make of course. One thing is for certain, however. Digital technology is rapidly advancing and becoming the standard for both audio and video entertainment. Analog (or non-digital) technology will be obsolete. You will have to upgrade to digital eventually. Find out what you like and test them both out. As most users of the Wii will tell you the interactive Wii remote with a nunchuck makes for a great gaming experience. Particularly if you are mimicking the slash of a sword or the swing of a bat. However the one thing that is difficult with the Wii remote is the difficultly in aiming the remote like a gun - this becomes particularly apparent in Red Steel. Holding the Wii remote in your hand in the traditional way means you hold it in an overhand grip and aim from the wrist. Not the easiest to do, especially in the game Red Steel. I haven't even finished the game because of this and a number of other fatal flaws. In particularly the graphics are very dark - maybe the game designers thought they were setting a mood, but when it becomes difficult to shoot at your enemies because you can't see them - then as a shoot them up this game fails in the most important aspect - playability. The game also gave me a head ache if I played it too long - a sure sign that the game was making too many demands on the eyes of the user.

You can over come the difficulty in aiming by buying the 'gun' setup accessory for your Wii which places your remote on the front of a "rifle" and the nunchuck on the back of the "rifle stock". I can't advise if the straight pistol accessory will work and it doesn't have this option advertised on the cover.

The story line is pretty lame and heavily Japanese influenced. You are a security guard for a Yakuza crime lord's daughter and you end up being her new boyfriend (yeh right - like I could see that really happening - rich people don't marry the help!). While going to visit her daddy all hell breaks loose and you spend the rest of the game going from one dark and graphically unappealing place to another shooting nearly everything in site - it only gets interesting when you get to saw a sword. Shoot em up's like the classic medal of honor series leave this game for dead.

My advice don't waste your money on this one - its a lemon and on special for a reason.

I've never been a huge fan of World War 2 first person shooters. Sure I've rented Medal of Honor Airborne and previous Call of Duty games and enjoyed for a few hours; but I never had the inclination to buy one. That is of course until Call of Duty 4 came along. I played the game at a friend's house over the holidays and was very impressed by the graphics, game play and overall feeling of submersion like I was actually standing alongside fellow soldiers ready to storm a building. I hadn't had this feeling like I was actually a part of an actually gun battle since I stormed the beaches of Normandy Medal of Honor Frontline for the PS2.

I was pleasantly surprised when, after seeing me play the copy of Call of Duty 4 I rented from Blockbuster, my uncle bought me a copy of my own. Of course I played the whole game through a couple of times during Christmas break and I appreciated it well enough; but I wondered, what's next? If most of you are thinking: "What about playing it online?" I didn't even realize there was online play until I got back to school for the next semester. If you go to a school similar to mine, you pretty much get all the bandwidth you want so internet connections aren't a problem.

Call of Duty trumps any game created so far when it comes to online play. Nothing is easier to play, nor more fun or exciting. Call of Duty 4 is like a no BS version of Counter Strike and a lot more fun. The large number of maps have kept players hooked to this game since it came out last November.

My only gripe with Call of Duty 4 online is that it is so fast paced; people who prefer to be snipers are at a serious disadvantage, unless of course you have extremely good reflexes and can run and jump while looking down a rifle scope.

If you haven't played Call of Duty 4 yet, pick it up and enjoy the best online play for both the XBOX 360 and PS3.

When it comes to online role playing games like the Age of Conan, power leveling is a phrase that is used to describe the process of rapidly increasing the character's level in the shortest possible time during the game play. This concept of power leveling is most commonly applied to the idea of trying to level up from any current level to the highest possible level in the game, which in the Age of Conan video game is the level 80. Some people have been lead to believe that power leveling can only be accomplished through hour after hour of grinding monsters over and over and over again. Luckily, not only is this not the case, but it is also one of the most ineffective ways for you to level your character up because there is so much more involved in this game.

What you should do instead is to organize all of your chests into a specific pattern so that you can have something of a pre set route to complete them in. This will minimize how much time you will take to get to the objective of each of the quests that you are completing. Another excellent method for leveling quickly is just to concentrate on the most efficient quests. For example, if you have a quest that is going to give you a better weapon as a result, and this better weapon will help you speed up the rest of the quests, then you should do this quest first and take advantage of the better weapon for the rest of your leveling.

Another method for quick and effective power leveling is to enlist a friend's help, especially someone who is either in your guild or in your kinship. If they have some extra time to help you, they may be able to walk you through some of the more difficult quests, allowing you to complete quests beyond what your level would allow you to complete on your own. This is an outstanding way for you to level up as quickly as possible, especially if you work with someone who already knows how to quickly complete the quests at hand.

If the people you are playing with are of a higher level than you are, they will be better equipped to kill bigger, better foes and monsters which means that you can gain more experience even when you are not a high enough level to tackle such opponents. Just do not get too carried away, because in an environment where your level is not high enough, you can easily fall prey to bigger, harder monsters and other challenges. Power leveling with the help of a higher level player is also commonly referred to as rushing, and finding someone to help you rush through the bigger, better quests should not be impossible. After a good rush, you will be a high enough level that you can complete the lesser quests and kill the lesser monsters on your own.

X-Men Legends - Christian Game Review

X-Men Legends is based on the 1963 comic book, "The Uncanny X- Men." A tale about a group of mutants led by Professor Charles Xavier, the world's most powerful mutant with mental abilities, learning how to deal with society's hatred toward them. The X-Men compose the following members with their codenames: Storm, Jean Gray (the only one who doesn't go by a codename, go figure), Cyclops, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Rogue, Colossus, and Iceman (just to name a few). Xavier formed the X-Men to fight threats to mankind, to teach the X-Men how to control their powers for good, and to one day hopefully live peacefully side by side with society.

Plot and Gameplay: 4.5 out of 5.0

X-Men Legends (XML) was masterfully crafted by a group of former Marvel comic writers called 'Man of Action.' The story centers around Alison Crestmere who possesses the mutant ability to control lava even changing her human form to a flaming version of herself. Hence, she earns the name of 'Magma'.

Magma is thrusted into the limelight after the grotesque, obese mutant called the Blob of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (the antagonist mutant team who is lead by the immensely powerful Magneto) kidnap Magma. Why would Magneto need this girl? Immediately, the player is controlling Wolverine hot on the trail of the Blob and to find out why Magneto desires this particular mutant.

XML is a fan boy's dream comes true as you finally get to control the X-Men in a Role Playing Game (RPG) fashion instead of the individual most gamers are used to playing them.

The game requires a player to go through various linear missions in order to solve Magneto's plot from the Artic to the Sewers (yes, those who are use to RPG know that no RPG would be complete without a trip to sewers, right? Thanks, JadesFire.). There are times where an X-Man will go off on a solo mission. So the freedom is not there to explore without limitations compared to RPG's like the Final Fantasy Series or Morrow wind.

XML strategically tucks away puzzle elements in the game forcing the player to make use of a X-Man's powers needed to continue on their quest. Unfortunately, the developers hold players by the hand displaying a large 'X' over areas that can be affected by a character's powers. If a player has the wrong X-Man, backtracking is allowed and Xtraction points can be used to change team members.

Graphics/Visual Presentation: 4.25 out of 5.0

Activision, during the earlier stages of XML, had made a smart move to leave the traditional bit images for the X-Men for cell shading technology. This brilliant move makes the player feel as if they are turning the pages of a virtual comic book. Each character is detailed just enough to tell them apart. Enemies and bosses are not very impressionable in appearance (not on par as DOOM 3) yet well done over all. The lighting effects are good quality when a player unleashes Cyclops' eye beam or Jean Grey's Psychic Scream. The environments are destructible which makes interesting eye candy when a player utilizes an X-Man's power on walls, generators, chairs, etc. The developers were cautious to include some detail (such as Blob's massive footprints in the street when Wolverine is on his trail) yet not to the point of overkill. There are some clipping issues (graphics that melt into another by mistake) yet these are easily overlooked. The cell shading cut scenes are slightly embarrassing (The X-Men look like puppets in this environment. Think "Thunderbirds" from the old television show series). Fortunately, the developers redeem themselves by adding more detailed cut scenes that will astound you in their cinematic feel.

Sound Quality: 4.75 out of 5.0

XML's biggest strength is the voice acting for the X-Men (the only exception is Cyclops whose dialogue in battle sounds like a bratty, smart aleck teenager than the rugged leader of the X-Men). Fans of the series will get goose bumps as Patrick Stewart breathes life into Professor Xavier's lines and the witty comments of Wolverine will cause chuckles for sure. Foley artists did a superb job in producing punching and kick sounds, explosions, and sounds for the X-Men's powers. While the music is not powerful orchestral pieces (personally, this would have made the gaming experience much more rousing), sleepy music selections are sadly the norm. The music can be a blessing and a curse at the same time. Music rushes in when enemies are near (a great way to warn the player of impeding danger) and can be soft music that loops over and over with no direction.

Violence: 4.75 out of 5.0

A RPG would be hard to do without conflict and battle and XML does not pander to over the top violence crowd.

The only blood visible in the game is when the X-Men infiltrate a military base and discover that General Kincaid is experimenting with humans and Sentinels (the blood is on the surgery floors). X-Men and enemies beat each other without any visual consequences even when Wolverine uses his claws on a foe. Powers as well do not cause any visual damage to ally or foe alike.

Language: 4.25 out of 5.0

Unfortunately, there are some parts that I cited as concern for me as a Christian. Nightcrawler, in the comics and in the game, professes to be a believer in God. He comments when he levels up: "My God, I am invincible!" or "I can beat the devil himself." These comments bothered me in light of such Scripture as Exodus 20:7 ("Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain") and Proverbs 16:18 ("Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall"). Cyclops, surprisingly, tells his brother Havok to 'go to hell.'

Sexual Content: 4.75 out of 5.0

Psylocke, an X-Man, dresses in tight leather pants that reveal the suggestive outline of a thong when she fights. There is an option to change her costume to a more conservative one.

Spiritual Content: 4.50 out of 5.0

Magneto's power hunger makes him think that all mutants are like gods. Magneto, in thirst for revenge against humans, created his own line from Genesis and the creation story by stating that: 'on the eight day, I looked down on creation and said, 'Let there be darkness.'" Nightcrawler, unashamedly, mentions God in a positive light in regards to his faith.

X-Men also have to go to the Astral Plane to save Professor Xavier whose mind and assumedly soul is trapped in this dimension. This can be looked as touching the New Age or Eastern philosophies.

Value: 4.0 out of 5.0

As a RPG, XML soars in the action, gameplay, and storytelling departments. When a player finishes the game though, XML crashes and burns on replay value. Once a player has completed the game, there is not much left to do. A player cannot go back with high level up X-Men to play the game a second time around (I peaked my team between levels 35-37). The Danger Room offers unlocked characters as well as multiplayer or player vs. player matches. A player can view all concept art, cinematic, and load screens. Other than the Danger Room, the excitement level wanes rather quickly.

Christian Rating: 4.25 out of 5.0

Positive: The X-Men truly teaches about teamwork and how each member cares about each other. As a player goes through the storyline, a true sense of unity is felt as the story unfolds about each X-Man's life and what they struggle with. Sacrifice and harmony is seen through their actions, a far cry from most games on the market today.

Negative: X-Men's theme of evolution is present as an explanation for their powers as a result of man getting better over time. However, the Bible is contrary to these beliefs. As a Christian, true power only comes from God Almighty (Ps. 62:11) and without Him; we are nothing (John 15:5). God alone is the Creator of mankind and any other 'power' outside of Him is definitively questionable (Ec. 12:1). The Astral Plane is the realm where only psychics can go in the X-Men Universe. This can be likening to the spirit realm where even Saul tried to contact the dead by the witch of Endor (1 Sam. 28).

Overall Outlook/Score: 4.50 out of 5.0

X-Men Legends, although not a perfect RPG, is a quantum leap in the right direction for the franchise. The premise of teamwork, sacrifice, and unity are great pillars holding the story together as well as good vs. evil. This premise is a great reminder of the need to be selfless in this day and age. Christian parents would be wise to remind their children about the murky view of evolution from the prism of creationism, where true power comes from, and the 'Astral Plane' in view of Scriptures. After the agonizing shoddiness of Activision's failed "X-Men: Next Dimension" (a fighting game), X-Men Legends gives a much needed jolt to the possible dying hopes of fans desiring a solid X-Men game. This is a game I could honestly recommend for one's library without shame.

Oblivion - A Whole 'Nother World

With the release of the Xbox 360, everyone naturally had high expectations of not just the console itself, but the new array of video games. One video in particular really hit the top, and it happens to be the one I am talking about. Oblivion came out back in 2006, but I didn't get my hands on to it until 2006. Boy did I miss out, the size of the game alone, is amazing, you can walk into practically anything that has doors, which is about every building, you can buy houses anywhere from shacks on the waterfront to a mansion in a city.

Compared the free-roam, the storyline doesn't seem that great, but nevertheless it is still fun, and provides many twists in turns as you fight your way through oblivion, saving the last heir of the empire, sounds kind of cheesy right? Let's face it though, this game didn't get named game of the year by practically every major video-game review website because of its storyline, it was because of what you could outside of the storyline. Just the amount of combinations of your player you can create is outstanding, and what's even more outstanding is the guilds you can join. Each guild gives you different weapons, spells, and other perks, and they each have their own "mini storyline".

Choose your character's destiny, will you be a thief, an assassin, a fighter, a mage, or will choose be all of them? I have played this game nonstop some days, and it became very addicting. If you are like me, you will go through many characters before you find your perfect character, which isn't a problem. If were to only have one game to play with for the rest of the year, I would pick Oblivion, because it consistently amazes me. If you want to buy it, it is now out for PS3, 360, and PC, though I don't recommend the PC version, even though you can use mods and other online PC features.

Do you have a technology disaster plan?

Technology disasters come in all shapes and sizes. From something as simple as hard disk failure to something as significant as an emergency affecting critical community infrastructure, disasters are difficult to predict, and often catastrophic when they occur.

Some businesses don't survive, simply due to simple lack of preparedness.

Planning for almost any kind of disaster frequently boils down to a handful of steps you might already be familiar with used in ways you might not have considered. Steps that can help make sure your business large or small survives in the face of unexpected adversity.

Backup your data. This is the big and obvious one. And yet it's one that still too many individuals and businesses, particularly small business, fail to put into place. More than anything other action, simply backing up regularly can protect you against all kinds of kinds of disasters large and small. With a solution in place what might otherwise be a business-threatening disaster can often simply be an inconvenience. Backups can be online or off, hourly, daily or monthly ... whatever is appropriate for your situation. The important thing is that they happen, and happen regularly.

Backup your data off site. Backing up is a start, but only protects against certain types of catastrophes. If your building burns down taking all your computers and backups with it, you're no better off than if you had no backups at all. Every so often, depending on your business needs and ability to recover from data loss, make sure to send a copy of your backed up data to some other secure location. Across town or across the country doesn't matter nearly as much as the location simply being "somewhere else". If they're appropriate for your needs, many on-line backup solutions give you this by the very nature of their service.

Encrypt your data. In addition to helping keep those off-site backups more secure, it's important to acknowledge that laptop and portable media loss and theft are at epidemic proportions. If having your information in the hands of unauthorized strangers would be a disaster for you or your business you simply must ensure that your data is encrypted when not in use. There are many solutions available; some of the best are even free.

Have an alternate power plan. How long can your business survive without something as fundamental as electricity? Even many "low tech" brick and mortar retail stores are often brought to a complete standstill when the power required to run their point of sale and other equipment disappears. Today's booming internet economy has only served to increase our reliance on this fundamental utility. Backup power supplies, generators or perhaps the ability to operate out of an alternate location are all potential solutions to consider.

Have an alternate connectivity plan. Particularly in this wired age, many businesses are as deeply reliant on their internet connection as they are on electricity. Losing that connection for a time is not at all unheard of, and can have serious repercussions. It may be enough to have an account ready to use the local coffee house's WiFi, or you may need to consider more robust backup connectivity solutions on-site.

Choose services that match your tolerance for disaster. Disasters need not be local to affect you. Many companies skimp when it comes to the services they choose to outsource to other locations. When key services like web sites, credit card processors, and other real-time services suddenly go off-line the results are often disastrous. Make sure you understand what you can realistically expect from every service you outsource, choose providers that match your needs, and have an appropriate strategies in place for their possible failure.

Have a "I can't get there" plan. When disasters are local and involve community infrastructure, sometimes simply getting to your place of business can be an issue. Tactical RPG - Soul Nomad and the World Eaters

This game by Nippon Ichi Software (NISA) is a fairly obscure Tactical RPG that just drips with awesomeness. Even among fans of NISA games it seems like this one RPG seemed to have just slipped by. It even slipped by me at first! The truth about this game, though, is that it is a really cool Ogre Battle clone. If ever you've played Ogre Battle, you know how cool it is... or how frustratingly complicated it is (the SNES one, at least), unless you devote some serious efforts and time into understanding what's going on in it.

First let me give some background info about Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen, and a bit about its system, then I'll explain what Nippon Ichi did to swap things up for Soul Nomad. Ogre Battle was a game developed by the now defunct Quest, and was published in America by Atlus as a somewhat limited edition game. Its combat system involved setting your units in row formations which would alter what attacks they could do, as well as how many times they could attack per battle. The movement system was a real-time system with small chess-piece like characters moving around on the map, meeting up with enemy units and engaging in combat. The game was essentially a drawn out campaign to defeat an evil empire and save the world. The story was very compelling, but I won't tell you much about it just in case you happen to play and don't like spoilers.

Fast forward to the N64 era. The N64 version of Ogre Battle was a watered down version of the game, which was much easier to manage and handle. The reason it was so easy to handle was because the alignment system got dumbed down a lot. The system in the original Ogre Battle on the SNES was incredible fickle and a single mistake or mismanagement of a unit could spell doom for your alignment rating for a very long time. You needed to manage this fickle system very closely, and make sure you didn't make any mistakes, lest you face the consequences. Ogre Battle 64 made the alignment requirements for class upgrades a lot easier to keep in check, causing the game to go more closely to the way YOU wanted it to go, as opposed to going how you allowed it to go through poor unit management and bad Tactical planning.

Fast forward this time to Soul Nomad. The Ogre Battle main series has not had any other incarnations since OB64, sadly, and I thought its battle system would disappear from gaming forever. Of course, NIS had something to say about that... Because they're so awesome. NIS brought out Soul Nomad, which is a game whose battle system, anybody could tell you, is very much like that of Ogre Battle : March of the Black Queen. If anybody disagreed with you on that point they were either wrong, lying, or never played Ogre Battle. The game basically uses a standard Tactical RPG movement system, and implements the row based combat from Ogre Battle.

RoN combines elements from Turn-Based Strategy games into an excellent RTS engine. Though it is beginning to age, RoN still looks and plays great.

RoN gives great RTS gameplay. Your empire-building is centered around cities. Cities expand your national borders, allow you to build resource-collecting and research buildings, and even Wonders of the World, historical structures that boost your performance. Resources are spread throughout the map, and are not depleted. Rare resources can also be found, which give increased production and added bonuses. Technology is also key, unlocking new units and buildings, and allowing you to progress through eight "ages," from Ancient to Information. Most technology is researched at the library, but nearly every building has some of its own. Combat follows the rock-paper-scissors concept, in that one unit easily defeats another, but is easily destroyed by a third, making well-balanced armies and navies the best choice.

Replayability is unlimited, with different map types that can be randomly generated time and again. There are 24 different "races" available, from British to Nubian to Mongol, each with its own unique units and national bonuses. Quick Battles offer custom fights between you and up to seven computer opponents, on a variety of different map types, with many customizable options. When (or if) you tire of unlimited Quick Battle play, there are five "Conquer the World Campaigns" to choose from. These range from Alexander the Great, Napoleon, the New World (following the colonization of the Americas), the Cold War between the USA and USSR, and "The Entire World," a Risk type map where each nation starts small and must expand its empire. Multiplayer is still highly active, and many player-made scenarios are available. RoN does not bore easily.

Even though it has been out for several years, RoN is still worth getting. It offers unlimited play with a very innovative design. Even graphics wise, RoN still holds up to more modern strategy games. Choose your nation, choose your gametype, and play in your own style. Rise of Nations is a great game that is easily found for a bargain price.

F-Zero is one of Nintendo's most prominent series. Its games are on nearly every Nintendo console known. The SNES, N64, GBA, Nintendo DS all have been graced with the appearance of an F-Zero game. However, F-Zero is one of the most underrated and ignored game series on the Nintendo. F-Zero is a futuristic racing series that takes place in the late 21st century.

Each race consists of around 30 racers each competing for the goal. However, unlike most racing games, F-Zero does not have any items or special features. It is just plain racing. High speeds of over 2000 miles per hour are not common and killing many racers to get ahead is the norm. In this series, racers compete in a variety of courses such as Port Town, Big Blue, Mute City, White Land and Red Canyon. The main character in the series is Captain Falcon.

He is a bounty hunter who rides the fast and powerful Blue Falcon. However, the series has quite a story line such as defeating evil enemies such as the Black Shadow, Zoda and Blood Falcon. Technology Holds Solution to High Def DVD Format War

There have been several different solutions proposed to end the format war between Sony's Blu-ray and Toshiba's HD DVD high def DVD formats. One possible solution is a disc that has a Blu-ray version of a movie on one side and an HD DVD version of the same movie on the other side. If discs like these became universal then consumers wouldn't have to decide between buying an HD DVD player or a Blu-ray player. Any disc could be used by either player.

Another solution that has been proposed is the possibility that is more of a solution by default as both formats become obsolete. This would be accomplished by the introduction of some new technology that makes DVD's obsolete, and is obviously not an acceptable solution in the view of Sony or Toshiba. One example of a technology that could do this is mass storage of video on portable hard drives. This video would be stored in a highly compressed format on very large drives that could connect to existing home entertainment equipment through the use of USB technology. Consumers would purchase these drives for a reasonable price and then pay for the access codes to watch individual videos on the disk. In effect, this would be much like the kind of video on demand service that satellite TV providers offer right now, only with a lot more videos to choose from and the ability to access any videos that have been unlocked indefinitely.

Another DVD killing technology would be anything that would allow a comprehensive video on demand service. Basically, if it was possible to get virtually any video ever made from the comfort of one's own home- both high def and conventional- there would cease to be any point in producing DVD's. Fortunately for everyone who has an interest in DVD's, such a service is a long way off, as much for legal copyright reasons as technical ones.

Then there's the possibility of HDTV killing technologies. Three Dimensional TV is one potential example of this. But it should be mentioned that there is a prototype Blu-ray player that's supposedly capable of upconverting high def video from Blu-ray discs so that it appears in three dimensions when viewed through goggles or on a 3D HDTV.

Perhaps the best technology that has been implemented so far that could end the format war is the dual format HDTV DVD player. Currently these devices are made by LG and Samsung, and their defining characteristic is that they can both play High Def DVD's in both formats. In other words, anyone who buys one of these devices doesn't have to be concerned about the high def DVD format war because they can play discs in either format. Of course, even if dual format high def DVD players became universal, HD DVD and Blu-ray would still be fighting for greater market share, but that wouldn't really be of any concern to consumers. In fact, consumers would probably benefit from a format war like that because the two sides would hold each others' prices down.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like dual format players will be a real solution because they cost so much. Right now it would be a better use of money to buy both an HD DVD player and a Blu-ray player separately. Hopefully though, this technology will come down in price to the point where it's completely viable.

Like the debate that has been raging for years on whether violence in movies and T.V. causes violent behavior in people, especially our youth seems to have spilled over onto the video game industry. And like the difference in opinions being debated over violence in the movie and T.V. industry, the argument over violence in video games has split into two camps. One camp say's that violent video games definitely is a catalyst in causing more violent behavior in people; especially kids. While the other camp say's there is no correlation between watching violent video games and violent behavior.

Remarkably, both sides agree that some video games have educational value while others are very helpful with aiding the sick, especially in physical therapy. While they do acknowledge the benefits to humanity, the naysayer's are quick to point out that the best selling video games have always been and will always be the games that promise sex and violence. Although there is a rating system for video games similar to the movie and T.V. industry, studies have shown that ratings that exclude children tend to draw them to those forbidden games like moths to a flame.

Studies done in 2001 show that of the 70 top selling video games that were reviewed, 49 percent of them contained serious violence. While opponents of video games are quick to point out that the two teenagers that committed mass-murder at Columbine High School were avid players of the violent video game Doom. The proponents of video games can point out any number of teenagers that play violent video games who are outstanding students and citizens. There was a study done of 75 people who played a violent video game on an average of about 60 hours in a month's time. The conclusion showed that there was absolutely zero escalation of violent behavior in the 75 participants during that time.

In conclusion, this writer finds that the "war" between the proponents and opponents of violent video games will rage on for years to come. Studies will continue to be done by both sides in an attempt to discredit each others conclusions and in the end, all they will succeed in doing is confuse the public. I believe that if a person is going to commit a violent act, then that person already had the propensity to commit violence all along. Where violent video games are sometimes blamed as being the catalyst for violent acts being committed, who is to really say it was not something else. Charles Manson blamed it on the Beatles song "Helter Skelter", while the "Son of Sam," David Berkowitz blamed it on a black Lab named "Sam."
In the end, as long as children develop moral values and are given guidance and love by their parents or parent, then all of the violent video games in the world would not have a negative affect on them. GAME ON!
